Celebrated worldwide
Father’s Day is celebrated worldwide to recognise the contributions that Fathers and Father figures make to the lives of their children. Although celebrated on a variety of dates, many countries observe the day on the third Sunday in June.

Originated in 1910
Thought by some to have originated from the pagan worship rituals of the Sun as its date is so close to the Summer Solstice. However it is now generally accepted that it originated in the United States by a woman called Sonora Smart Dodd who was inspired by the American Mothers Day celebrations.

Not only Fathers
Father’s Day is obviously a celebration for Fathers - but also of other Father figures such as Fathers-in-law, Stepfathers, Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers.
